Masai Mara National Reserve

Overview

The Masai Mara National Reserve is Kenya’s most iconic wildlife destination, covering 1,510 sq km of open savannah in the southwestern Rift Valley. It forms the northern extension of Tanzania’s Serengeti ecosystem, together hosting the world’s greatest wildlife spectacle — the annual Great Wildebeest Migration. Between July and October, over 1.5 million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles pour across the Mara River in dramatic crossings. Beyond the Migration, the Mara maintains extraordinary year-round wildlife with one of Africa’s highest lion densities, prolific leopard sightings, cheetah hunts on the open plains, and all of the Big Five.
